Hi Emanuele - thanks for your comment! I had not come across Workbook. This raises a few points which I started to comment on but it became quite a large comment so decided to dedicate a full post!

Jon,
I'm loving your posts and I must thanks Luis for introducing me to your wonderful blog, but I'm not completely sure this time that you are right :)

A few months ago I was quite impressed by the Serena case and by Workbook, the secure intranet inside Facebook, proposed by Worklight.

I think the big value here is not really having your company data inside Facebook (Workbook is more a frame inside the Facebook page), but giving your employees the same user experience Facebook gives.

I see it as a smart way to improve adoption (a lot of them are already using Facebook) and guarantee something that works well without reinventing the wheel.

It's absolutely true that the first step has to be the identification of business and employees pains and needs to solve (and not the tool or the content), but having your contacts (even external ones)
already there and a good user experience could be a big plus and not a barrier to adoption.

Jon,

There are other solutions that provides the collaboration platform needed, within the corporate firewall - Lotus Connections. Lotus Connections is the first enterprise-ready social software, heavily based on IBM's experience with various social platforms. Lotus Connections is a web-based solution, easily integrates into existing infrastructures, even SharePoint. ibm.com/lotus/connections or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBvIeFbta9I
